Chinese Wind Power

Project Location: Shanghai, China.

Project Type: Renewable energy: Wind.

Project Status: Project in operation and VCS verified.

Project Description:

This project consists of two wind farm sites within the Shanghai province. The wind resource in these areas is good and on average the turbines generate over 2,000 hours a year. The power generated is fed into the Shanghai power grid. Carbon credits are necessary for project financing.

Methodology: used to calculate the baseline is the UN approved ACM0002, "consolidated methodology for grid connected electricity generation from renewable sources". This project is awaiting CDM registration with historic emission reductions to sell as VER’s.

Additional Benefits:

  • Job opportunities are created in constructing and operating the wind farm.
  • Fossil fuels are the dominant source for power generation in China. Generating power from this wind farm reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Contributes to the overall sustainable development goals of China.
  • Contributes towards stimulating and accelerating the commercialisation of grid-connected renewable energy technologies.
  • Promotes the development of wind power markets in East China.
