Indian Biomass project

Project Location: Maharashtra, India.

Project Type: Renewable energy: Biomass.

Project Status: Project in operation and VCS verified.

Project Description:

The project developer is a sugar mill, which generates its own heat and power, exporting the surplus to the regional electricity grid. The project activity consists of the expansion of a bagasse grid-connected co-generation process, involving the installation of a new boiler. Carbon credits are necessary for project financing.

Methodology: used to calculate the baseline is the UNFCC approved ACM0006-Version 06, Sectoral Scope 01, EB-33, “Consolidated methodology electricity generation from biomass residues” and has applied the VCU Verification Criteria 10.A, for additionality demonstration.

Additional benefits:

  • Creation of 678 permanent jobs, 19 directly running the project activity and the remaining in the sugar mill crushing capacity expansion.
  • Helping to reduce India’s chronic electricity shortfalls.
  • Energy generation from renewable energy, in detriment of energy generation from coal.
  • State of the art technology is used.
